Norris wins home race in Silverstone; podium for Hülkenberg

07/07/25

Lando Norris celebrated his first home victory — and his fourth win of the season — in a dramatic race with changing weather conditions. On a wet and later drying track, he crossed the finish line 6.8 seconds ahead of teammate Oscar Piastri. Piastri had led at one point but was pushed back due to a 10-second penalty for “erratic braking” behind the safety car. He appeared visibly disappointed after the race, especially since McLaren refused to issue team orders. The biggest surprise came from Nico Hülkenberg: after 239 starts, he stood on the Formula 1 podium for the first time in his career, finishing third. Lewis Hamilton (Ferrari) came fourth, and Max Verstappen (Red Bull) finished only fifth after several incidents. Multiple safety car phases and retirements marked the rain-soaked race. Around 500,000 fans attended the four-day event in Silverstone — a record. A historic day for McLaren and Hülkenberg — but also marked by team tension and plenty of drama.
