Monza: Max wins again; McLarens struggle

08/09/25
Max Verstappen celebrated a surprising comeback in Monza as both polesitter and winner of the Italian Grand Prix! The McLarens stood no chance and also made mistakes – especially during Lando Norris’s pit stop, where an issue with the left front wheel cost valuable time. Oscar Piastri, who had temporarily benefited and gained second place, had to give it back. Marking 50 years since Niki Lauda’s world championship title with Ferrari at Monza in 1975, the Italians came to their home Grand Prix with a special livery, custom overalls and outfits, and high hopes. However, with Charles Leclerc finishing 4th and Lewis Hamilton 6th, they could not truly thrill the Tifosi. George Russell came home 4th, Alexander Albon finished 7th, the very strong Bortoletto took 8th, the disappointing Antonelli 9th, and Hadjar – storming up from last on the grid – also scored points. The final eight rounds of this year’s championship will all take place outside Europe – with the next race in two weeks’ time in Baku.
